Had a boss tell me my pipe bends were 'sloppy' - changed everything about my setup

I've been running a dredge for about 4 years now, mostly doing river cleanouts. Last month my foreman pulled me aside and said my elbows were at inconsistent angles, making the discharge line kink. He showed me to mark my reference points with chalk before each bend instead of eyeballing it. Now I take an extra 30 seconds per joint but haven't had a single blockage since. Anybody else get feedback that forced you to slow down and do better?

Got a buddy who works on a drilling crew, and his supervisor told him his pipe dope application was uneven, leaving gaps. He had to start wiping the threads clean and using a measured bead around each joint instead of just slapping it on. Took him like a year to break the habit, but he said his connections barely leak now even under high pressure. Little stuff like that really does add up.

Similar situation happened to me with a wash plant setup a few years back. My partner pointed out my feed lines were cutting into each other on the curve and causing slow downs. Took his advice and started using a simple protractor to check my angles before welding anything. That extra minute of measuring saved me from having to redo three joints later that same day. Good foreman are worth their weight in gold for catching little stuff like that early. Slowing down is hard to do when you're used to just getting it done fast, but the results speak for themselves.
