Finally realized my swing angle was killing my production curve
Ran a 40 foot stretch on the Meramec last month and kept coming up short on material. Took me three passes to notice the drag marks on the bank, my cutter head was tilted down about 8 degrees the whole time. Every other operator I worked with just said 'feel it out' and I thought I did, but the moment I checked the level on the ladder I felt like an idiot. Straightened it out and my yield jumped almost 25% on the same spot. Has anyone else had a similar wake up call with their own boom setup or is it just me being slow on the uptake?

Ever check your ladder level before you even start, or do you just eyeball it like the rest of us? I spent a whole week chasing a 15% drop on a gravel bar, turns out my boom was flexing under load and I never thought to re-check it after the first pass. Eight degrees is nothing, but it's everything when you're counting yards.
