Comparison: Using a homemade pump spreading boom vs. the store-bought one I had for 4 years
Built a pump spreading boom out of PVC and some old fittings last month for our 3-acre pond job. Cost me maybe $30 in parts. The one I bought from the supply shop 4 years ago? $220 and it clogged every third load. The homemade one spreads the sand mix way more even. No clogging so far. Took an afternoon to build. Anyone else ever just rig something up that worked better than the expensive version?

Nah see you're way off on that one. The store bought one is made with proper UV resistant plastic that won't get brittle after a season in the sun. Plus those PVC fittings will crack the first time you hit a rock or a hidden stump. You saved 190 bucks but you're gonna be rebuilding that thing three times before that old cloggy one finally gives out.

Bet your $30 build works better than that overpriced clog factory. Sounds like you paid $220 for a headache and some fancy stickers. PVC gang for the win. Those store bought ones are designed to break so you buy another. If it works it works, who cares if it looks like a plumbing accident.

Ha! Dude my buddy @richard_dixon built a PVC rig once and it actually outshot my buddy's store bought one in a competition. He was so mad.
