Vent: I think the push for full 3D modeling on every single job is a waste of time
I just finished a set of shop drawings for a steel stair in a small office building, the kind of thing we used to knock out in a day with 2D details. The client insisted on a full Revit model this time. It took three days. The model looks great spinning around on screen, but the fabricator just printed the flat views anyway. The real change happened over the last five years, where this went from a 'nice to have' for big jobs to a default demand. I think it's driven by managers who don't actually do the drafting, wanting a flashy deliverable. For standard connections and assemblies, a clear 2D detail with a note is faster and gets the same thing built. Has anyone else pushed back on this and just provided 2D sheets when the scope allows?
