Update: The old courthouse in Springfield had a drafting detail I'd never seen before
I was checking out the historic courthouse in Springfield last month, and I noticed the way they did the stair railings. The ironwork had these tiny, perfect miters at every corner, but the joints were almost invisible. The guide said the original 1898 blueprints called for a specific weld and file method that took a full day per joint. It made me think about how we rush details now with modern tools. Has anyone run into an old method like that on a job, something that made you slow down and do it right?

You have to let the metal cool completely between passes or the weld pulls. We did a full restoration on a library balcony, and rushing just meant grinding it all out later.
