My old boss told me to always hand-draft a quick thumbnail sketch first, even for simple parts.

I thought it was a waste of time and jumped straight into CAD for a bracket job last week. Spent an hour fighting with the assembly constraints because I hadn't thought through the clearances. Went back, drew a 2-minute pencil sketch on a napkin, and had the model done in 20 minutes. He was right. Anyone else have a 'waste of time' tip that actually saves you hours?

Seems a bit dramatic for a bracket.

Dramatic for a bracket" made me laugh. My friend once spent a whole weekend making a spreadsheet for our fantasy football draft. He had color-coded tabs for player stats, injury history, and even bye weeks. He printed it out and brought it to the draft like it was a business plan.

Oh yeah my buddy showed up to our draft with a FULL binder of stats, seriously it was like 40 pages.
