Got stuck on a detail drawing for a custom bracket last week

I drew it up in 2D first, which took me about three hours with all the notes. Then I redid it in 3D using my CAD software, and it only took forty-five minutes to spot a major clash with a pipe run. The 3D model just showed the problem right away. Anyone else find that starting in 3D saves a ton of rework on complex parts?

Depends on the part. I still sketch some things in 2D first to figure out the basic layout.

Sketching in 2D first? Sounds like a lot of work for something that's just gonna get modeled over anyway.

My last project proved 3D first is faster.
