TIL you can fix a squeaky floorboard with baby powder and a paintbrush

I tried it on the hallway outside my bedroom last weekend after hearing that squeak for 6 months, and it actually worked - has anyone else found a weird trick for old house noises that actually holds up?

Be careful with that baby powder though - did you use the whole can or just a light dusting? I've heard too much can cake up and make things worse after a few months.

Actually never really thought about it that way... I always just figured more powder equals more protection, y'know? But you make a good point about it caking up over time. I've definitely noticed some weird clumps on my little one's skin after heavy applications, never connected it to the amount I was using though. Gonna have to switch to a lighter dusting from now on, appreciate you bringing that up.
