That comment about my drywall mud mix saved me hours

A contractor walked by my job site and said my joint compound was way too thick, like peanut butter when it should be mayo. I cut 3 minutes per joint after thinning it out and stopped getting those little craters that drive me crazy. How thin do you guys run your first coat?

A buddy of mine runs his first coat like pancake batter and swears by it, but I tried that once and ended up with sagging and a mess. Thinner is easier for sure, but I learned the hard way that too thin just means more coats and way more sanding later. Finding that sweet spot between mayo and heavy cream is the real trick.

Huh, @shaneb16, what about temp? Cold shop makes that pancake batter run every time.
