Tbh, I finally fixed my squeaky floor after three years of ignoring it

Honestly, I got tired of that one spot in my hallway that sounded like a mouse every time I walked over it. Last month, I watched a video that said to find the joist and drive a screw down through the floorboard into it. I grabbed my cordless drill and a box of 2 inch screws. It took maybe twenty minutes and now it's totally quiet. Has anyone else tried this trick on an old house?

My buddy did that exact thing in his old bungalow last fall. He said the squeak was gone but he hit a pipe with the screw, which was a whole new problem. Makes you wonder if you need one of those stud finders that also checks for wires, right?

Oh man, hitting a pipe is my absolute nightmare. I felt a chill just reading that. I did the same screw trick on my stairs and I was sweating the whole time, sure I was going to hit something important. It worked out, but stories like your buddy's make me want to just live with the squeak next time. That's a way bigger fix than a noisy floorboard.

Ever think @the_oscar's buddy just got unlucky? Most of the time you're just hitting wood, and the squeak fix is totally worth the tiny risk.
