Saw a guy level a whole shed with a phone level app. Worked fine.
My neighbor was building a 10x12 shed last Saturday. He pulled out his iPhone, propped it on a 2x4, and called it good. I laughed. Then I checked with my 4-foot torpedo level. Dead nuts. Made me think how much money I've wasted on bubble levels over 15 years. Has anyone else junked their old tools for a phone?

Funny how good those phone sensors have gotten over the years. Your mileage may vary, but I tested mine against a Stabila 24-inch level and it was within a hair. Still keep the bubble levels around for rough framing where a drop could kill a phone, though.

You've got a point, @black.pat. I dropped my phone off a ladder trying to get that "perfect" level reading once, and it cracked the screen so bad I had to use a laser level app on a tablet for a week. My phone's gyro is pretty good for hanging a picture frame, but I'm still too clumsy to trust it with anything that involves heights or dropping tools. Self-deprecating joke time: my bubble level has saved my phone more times than my phone has saved my bubble level.
