Scavenging free materials always beats buying new. Found a stack of discarded laminate flooring last year and patched my garage workbench with it. Some of my best projects started with other people's trash.

Come on now, some of that free stuff is just junk waiting to happen. I grabbed some "perfectly good" siding once and it cracked in a month.

But isn't the gamble worth it when you find a real gem like that flooring?
