Rant: My neighbor's 'quick fix' for a sagging porch roof almost cost him his house

Three years ago in my old neighborhood, the guy next door decided to prop up his sagging porch roof with a couple of 4x4 posts from the hardware store, just resting them on the deck boards. He told me, 'It'll hold for a season.' Last week, I drove by and saw the whole thing had shifted, pulling the roof framing away from the house. Has anyone else seen a temporary fix turn into a major structural hazard?

Sometimes you gotta do what works with the budget you have.

Remember my buddy trying to fix his old truck. He couldn't afford the new part, so he used a bolt from the hardware store, some washers, and a bit of hose clamp. It looked rough but it held for two years until he saved up. He drove that thing every day.

Yeah, "do what works" is my whole life plan. My last car repair involved a lot of duct tape and hope. It got me to work, so I'm calling it a win.
