My attempt to install a smart thermostat ended with a very confused delivery guy
I was halfway through wiring the new unit when the doorbell rang. The delivery guy had a package for me, but he saw the old thermostat guts on the floor and the wiring diagram in my hand. He just stared for a second and said, 'You know, my cousin tried that last month and his AC blew cold air in January.' He then handed me the box, a set of pliers, and wished me good luck before leaving. Has anyone else had a random stranger give you a dire warning mid-project?

Sounds like that guy has seen some things. Free pliers are a solid consolation prize though.

It's wild how many people have that one weird tool they got for free from some random situation. My neighbor has a socket wrench from a lost bet, and my dad's favorite hammer was left behind by a plumber. These little objects end up having way more story than stuff you buy.

Was that warning really about the thermostat or his own bad luck? I'd just be happy with the free pliers.
