I finally admitted vinyl plank flooring is better than my old hardwood
I spent years hating on LVP. Thought it was fake plastic junk for cheap flips. Then I installed it in my basement after a pipe burst wrecked the old wood floors. Three years later and zero issues even with the kids and dog. The old oak would have warped twice by now. What's a project you were dead wrong about?

My buddy Ryan swore by his parents' 1920s oak floors for years. He had this whole speech about real wood having "soul" and LVP being trash. Then his dog had a bladder infection and ruined three rooms of that oak before they caught it. He ripped it all out, put in LVP, and now he brags about mopping up muddy paw prints without panicking. The guy even admitted his heating bill went down a bit because the vinyl doesn't leak cold air like the old subfloor gaps did. He still talks about the "soul" thing but now he jokes it was the soul of his wallet leaving.

HA! Drew your buddy Ryan sounds like me five years ago before I came to my senses. @linda500 would have a field day checking the temperature difference between my old oak and the LVP I put down. Guess the only "soul" wood has is the pain in your soul when you're refinishing it every few years.

Get a cheap infrared thermometer and check your floors in winter. You'll see exactly where the cold spots are before they become problems.
