Had a talk with my neighbor about his deck last weekend and it totally changed how I see my own rebuild
He told me he spent $400 on hidden fasteners for his cedar planks and I thought he was crazy until he showed me how clean the surface looks with no screw heads. Has anyone else gone the hidden fastener route on a deck project and felt it was worth the extra cash?

Man that hidden fastener thing really got me thinking too... I did my deck a couple years back and just used regular screws, and now every time I look at it I notice those little dark spots where the heads are. Wish I'd known about the hidden ones before I started, or at least had someone talk me through it like your neighbor did. It's one of those things where you don't realize how much cleaner it looks until you see it side by side.

Oh man, you're totally right about not realizing until you see it side by side lol. I redid my parents' deck last summer with hidden fasteners and my neighbor came over asking what kind of magic I used because his old deck looked like it had freckles next to mine. It's honestly one of those upgrades that just makes everything look so much cleaner without any extra work once you know about it.

Oh yeah, the hidden clips are totally worth it if you can handle the upfront cost (I've done both ways).
