Found a guy redoing his kitchen floor with peel-and-stick tiles...

I was at a hardware store in Austin last Saturday and saw someone loading up 20 boxes of those cheap peel-and-stick vinyl tiles for a kitchen reno. He said it saved him $600 over real tile but I worry about them lifting near the sink. Is it dumb to save that kind of money if the floor might not last more than two or three years?

Like my buddy down in San Antonio learned the hard way, he did his whole kitchen floor with those peel-and-stick tiles and they looked great for about six months. Then his dishwasher had a tiny leak he didn't catch fast enough, and the water seeped under the edges and lifted half the floor by the time he noticed. The worst part was trying to pull them up after they got all sticky and warped, it turned into this whole nightmare project. So yeah, saving $600 sounds awesome upfront, but if you've got any moisture issues you're basically gambling that nothing goes wrong for a few years.

Tell me about it! My neighbor did the same thing and after one humid summer the tiles were curling up at the edges like old potato chips. He ended up ripping the whole thing out and spending double what real tile would've cost.
