PSA: Concrete pavers beat flagstone after my Reno patio disaster
Spent $900 on flagstone last spring and half of it cracked by fall, then my neighbor in Reno suggested stamped concrete pavers and they've survived two winters with zero issues. Anyone else ditch natural stone for pavers after a warping headache?
The freeze thaw cycle up here does way more damage than people give it credit for, and flagstone is basically a sponge for moisture if it's got any tiny crack. What nobody mentions is that paver joints act like expansion gaps, so the whole surface moves as one unit instead of each slab fighting the ground. I switched after watching my neighbor's flagstone turn into a tripping hazard and his pavers stayed flat as a table. Plus if one paver does fail you can pop it out and swap it in ten minutes, flagstone means calling a mason and hoping the color matches.
