Pro tip: skip the $300 weed barrier fabric, gravel and cardboard works better
Last spring I laid down 200 feet of that expensive landscape fabric for my new flower beds. Looked GREAT for about a month. Then the weeds punched right through it anyway. I was furious. My neighbor came over and told me to rip it up and just use a layer of cardboard boxes under 3 inches of pea gravel. Cost me maybe $40 for the gravel since I got free boxes from the liquor store. Two seasons later and hardly ANY weeds. The fabric actually trapped moisture and made things worse. Has anyone else had luck with the cheap cardboard method or do you swear by something else entirely?
