My neighbor's mulch advice wasted 2 weekends and $180
Old guy next door swore by cedar mulch for keeping weeds out, said his beds stayed clean for 5 years straight, so I loaded up 10 bags and spread it thick. By June the stuff had washed into my lawn after one storm and the weeds popped through anyway, plus the color faded to gray in 3 weeks. Anyone else find that soil fabric beats mulch in wet climates like here in Seattle?
Man, that sucks! I had the same thing happen here in Portland, so I ditched mulch for shredded bark and a thick layer of cardboard under it, weeds barely stand a chance now.
