Tried using vinegar to clean my showerhead, ended up with a flooded bathroom

So I soaked my showerhead in a bag of white vinegar overnight like every tutorial says. Woke up at 3am to water dripping through the ceiling downstairs. The vinegar ate through the rubber gasket seal and it just popped off. Anyone else have a simple fix turn into a full plumbing disaster?

Always thought vinegar was harmless but man was I wrong about that.

Wait, what happened with it? I use it for everything from salads to cleaning and never had an issue.

Replace those rubber washers with silicone ones, they don't melt like that.
