Tried to fix a leaky pipe at 10 PM and flooded half my kitchen

So last Tuesday I noticed a slow drip under the sink around 9:30 at night. Thought I'd be smart and just tighten the nut with a wrench. Well that nut was more corroded than I thought and the whole thing snapped off. Water started spraying everywhere like a fire hose. I ran to shut off the main valve but tripped over a bucket and knocked over a stack of pans. Took me 20 minutes to mop up with every towel I own. Ended up calling a plumber the next morning who charged me 150 bucks for a 5 minute fix. Has anyone else made a small problem way worse by jumping in too fast?

Oh man, that stinks. lol You basically learned the hard way that 10 PM is not the time to become a master plumber. At least now you've got a good story and a 150 buck lesson in patience.

Yeah man, totally. The rule of thumb is never start a plumbing project after 8 PM. I did the same thing with a toilet fill valve once. Thought it would be a quick swap but stripped the threads on the supply line. Water everywhere. Had to run to the 24 hour hardware store at midnight in my pajamas. The worst part was my wife waking up to me cursing under the sink with a wet head. Now I just put a bucket under any drip and deal with it in the morning.
