Totally messed up a drywall patch in my own garage last week

I was trying to fix a hole from an old shelf bracket in my garage... thought I'd just slap some joint compound over it and call it a day. Looked okay at first but then it cracked all along the edges after it dried. My neighbor Tim came over to grab a tool and he just laughed... pointed out I didn't tape the seam. Now I gotta sand it all down and do it proper this time. Anyone else learn drywall the hard way in their own house?

That old "skip the tape" trick gets everyone at least once. Sanding it flat and doing the tape and mud sandwich the right way is the only fix that lasts. The garage is a good place to learn, nobody sees your mistakes but you. Just remember to feather those edges out wide next time, that's what stops the cracking.
