The drywall patch I did 3 years ago is still perfectly flat - no cracks

I had to fix a fist-sized hole in my living room wall back in 2021 after moving a heavy shelf into the wrong spot. Used a California patch with some 20-minute setting compound from Home Depot in Des Moines. Anyone else find that those pre-made mesh patches never hold up as well as a good old paper tape and mud job?

Des Moines mud is garbage though, way too much sand in that stuff.

Yeah the sand content is ROUGH. I tried working with some of that stuff a few years back and it was like trying to mold wet concrete mix. You have my sympathy on that one, that's a real pain to deal with.
