Tbh I was dead wrong about those cheap moisture meters on Amazon

I always thought those $12 pin style moisture meters were a total scam until I borrowed one from my neighbor last week to check a damp spot in my basement wall. Turns out my drywall was sitting at 18% moisture content right behind the baseboard, which explained the weird musty smell I'd been ignoring for months. I bought one the same day and found another wet area near the bathroom pipe that would've rotted out the studs eventually. Has anyone else caught a surprise issue with one of these things?

My buddy Dave got one of those smart meters installed last month and now he's convinced his toaster is plotting against him. He texts me every day about some new "spike" he sees on the app, like when he turned on his coffee maker and the microwave at the same time. I told him that's just normal stuff, but now he unplugs everything except his fridge before he goes to bed. The other night he called me at 11pm because the meter said his house was using 0.2 kilowatts more than usual and he thought someone was stealing his power. Dude's got aluminum foil on his router now.
