Shoutout to the old timer at Home Depot who stopped me from buying the wrong glue for my subfloor

Guy was probably 70, saw me staring at the adhesive aisle for 10 minutes. He just walked over and said "that's not gonna hold your tongue and groove, you need the stuff with the green label." I almost grabbed the regular construction adhesive. Saved me from a floor that would have been squeaking in 6 months. Has anyone else had a random stranger save them from a DIY disaster?

...and that's why I always look like I'm lost in the hardware store, because I usually am. Last month some guy at Lowe's had to stop me from using a wire brush on a gas line fitting... yeah, not my finest moment. I'm convinced there's a secret society of old dudes who just roam the aisles saving us from ourselves.

Is it just me or do you start noticing the same kind of "hidden helpers" in other parts of life too? Like at the grocery store, there's always that one person who sees you staring at the avocados and says "squeeze 'em gently, not hard." Or at the park, some guy who sees you struggling to set up a tent and just walks over and grabs the poles. They're like little guardian angels with practical skills. You start to wonder if every place has its own version of that hardware store society.

Oh man, I don't know if it's that deep. Like yeah people are nice sometimes, but I think we just notice it more when we're already in that headspace. Pretty sure half the time they're just bored and want someone to talk to, not secretly saving the world one tent pole at a time.
