Retired electrician neighbor saved me $200 on a wire fix
My neighbor Bob who used to work for the power company told me to stop flipping breakers and just check the GFCI outlet in my garage first. I had a dead outlet in the living room for like a week and was about to call an electrician. Turns out the outside christmas lights tripped the GFCI and it killed power to three other outlets downstream. Cost me zero dollars and like 5 minutes to reset it with a toothpick. Anyone else have a neighbor who gives surprisingly solid DIY advice?

Gently, using a toothpick isn't a great idea.

A toothpick and some dental floss did the trick for me.

Hang on, what's the actual problem with a toothpick though? I've seen people use them for years without issues, but I'm guessing you've had a bad experience or seen some damage happen. Is it the wood splintering off or the risk of poking the gum too hard? I've always figured as long as you're gentle and don't jam it in, a toothpick is better than just leaving food stuck between teeth. What would you recommend instead for getting stuff out of tight spaces?
