My garage shelf collapsed after I overloaded it with paint cans
I stacked about 8 gallons of old latex paint on a single metal shelf in my garage and woke up to a huge crash at 2am. Learned that those wire shelf brackets bend way before the rating says they should, anyone else had a shelf failure from something dumb like that?

Man, that 2am crash would've scared the crap out of me. I did the same thing but with a bunch of old canned food and mason jars. What finally worked for me was swapping those wire shelves for solid wood planks - I cut some 3/4 inch plywood to fit over the wire and it spreads the weight way better. Those wire brackets are just too flimsy for anything heavy, no matter what the package says.

Good point, plywood spreads the weight way better than wire ever could.
