Just realized my attic ladder was never actually secured
Was up there swapping out the furnace filter last weekend and gave the ladder a good shake on the way down. Turns out the top flange was only nailed in with 4 skinny 2 inch nails, not bolted like I assumed. Checked the install manual and it called for 8 lag screws into the framing, so I fixed that with some 1/4 inch lags from Home Depot for about 12 bucks. Anyone else ever trust a preinstalled feature without double checking the hardware?

Did the nails actually have any bite into the joist, or were they just hanging on by the drywall? Ive seen those cheap attic ladders pull clean out because the installers only hit the ceiling board. Also, did you check if the ladder frame was even aligned with the framing, or did you have to shim it when you put the lags in?
