I finally figured out my miter saw cuts were off after 2 years because I never checked the blade was truly square to the fence

Watched a YouTube video last night where the guy just used a simple carpenter's square instead of a fancy digital tool and I ran down to my garage at 11pm, checked, and sure enough the blade was tilted maybe half a degree, has anyone else been cutting crooked for way longer than they want to admit?

That half degree adds up fast when you're doing trim work. Did you find the blade was leaning left or right from square?

Oh come on, is it really that big of a deal?

That blade was leaning left from square, which is a real pain when you're doing crown molding. You think one little degree won't matter, but by the time you run six feet of trim the gap is huge. I think a lot of people don't notice until they put the piece up and see it's all off. Checking with a good square every few cuts saves a lot of frustration later on.
