Hit 100 patch jobs on my 1920s bungalow in Portland and I still can't fix the squeaky floor
I bought this old house 3 years ago and I've been keeping a tally on the fridge of every little repair I do. Last week I hit 100 exactly when I swapped out a busted light switch in the hallway. But that one floorboard near the bathroom door has been squeaking since day one and I've tried shims and screws nothing works. Anyone know a trick for these old hardwood subfloors that actually sticks?

I've got a 1928 craftsman over in Southeast and hit patch 87 last month on a window crank, so I feel your pain on that tally. One thing to double check is if you're using the right screw length, I had a spot where the subfloor is actually 3/4 inch thick and I was bottoming out with 1 inch screws, they weren't grabbing anything. Try a 1 1/2 inch trim head screw driven at a slight angle into the joist, that finally fixed a squeak that had been driving me nuts for two years.

Is the 3/4 inch subfloor common in these old houses because mine had the same issue with a spot near the fireplace.
