Finally tried mixing my own thinset instead of using the pre-mixed bucket stuff
I was always using the pre-mixed buckets for my tile backsplash in the kitchen, but it was so thick and hard to work with. Switched to a bag of powder mix from Home Depot for the last section and it was way smoother and easier to spread. Has anyone else found the powder stuff just works better for small projects too?

Oh man, my buddy tried that bucket stuff once and said it felt like spreading peanut butter!

Did you read that one article that was floating around about how the texture changes depending on the temperature? I mean, I saw someone breaking down the science of it and apparently the brand matters a ton too. The cheap stuff apparently gets super thick and clumpy in the cold, like actual cold butter straight from the fridge. Maybe it's just me but I feel like you gotta warm it up a bit first if you want it to spread easier. Otherwise you're just fighting with a rubber spatula for twenty minutes.
