Rant: My sister convinced me bowls go on the bottom rack and I feel betrayed

I always put bowls on the top rack because that's how my dad did it growing up in Detroit. But my sister Lisa visited last week and pointed out that bowls trap water on the top rack and never dry right. She showed me her bottom rack load with bowls all tilted to one side and they came out bone dry. Has anyone else had a family member flip your loading habits like this?

Huh, that's one way to look at it. But I actually put bowls on the bottom rack with the open side facing down, not tilted. That way the spray arm blasts water into the bowl and rinses it out, not just dribbles on the outside. My mom taught me that and it works every time.

I read somewhere that the spray arm can actually trap water in bowls if you face them down, leading to that funky smell after a while. I've been tilting mine ever since and no more mystery stink.
