My mother in law rearranged my dishwasher at Thanksgiving and I still haven't recovered
She pulled out perfectly loaded plates and restacked them all vertical like some kind of maniac at her house last November. Now I find myself second guessing if my horizontal method actually gets stuff cleaner or if I just hate change. Has anyone actually tested which angle gets plates cleaner in a real kitchen or are we all just guessing?

Start by forgetting everything you think you know about dishwashing theory. @troyreed nailed it - that is a personal violation and honestly a power move. The real test isn't angle, it's about how the water hits each dish. Horizontal stacking lets water pool and sit, which is actually better for soaking stuck-on food. Vertical is just for drying faster. I run mine horizontal for plates every time and they come out spotless. Your method is fine, she was just being controlling.
