Mother in law told me forks point up for better cleaning, but I've found the opposite

She insisted it lets water hit the prongs better, but after three months I pulled out a fork with dried egg still stuck between the tines from pointing up. Has anyone else tried both ways and seen a clear winner on which gets things cleaner?

Yeah the dried egg thing is rough, I've been there. I point mine down now and just run water through the handle side, never had a stuck-on issue since.

Thing is, pointing the handle down actually puts more pressure on the seal over time. I read a repair manual once that said that little rubber gasket can wear out faster if you store it that way. Water gets trapped under the handle too, mold city. Might be worth just soaking the dried egg off with hot water before scrubbing. Way less hassle than replacing the lid later.
