Finally figured out why my coffee mugs keep coming out wet on top

Just grabbed the wrong mug last week and took a big swig of what I thought was coffee but turned out to be a healthy sip of damp mug water. Absolutely disgusting. I've tried the upside down on a towel method too and it works okay but then my cat thinks the towel is a new bed and lays right on top of the clean mugs. So now I'm basically living with fur flavored coffee no matter what I do.

Did your friend check if the mug was completely dry before putting it away? I had a buddy who kept getting wet rings on his counter. Turned out he was washing his mugs and then stacking them while they were still damp. The moisture got trapped between them and just sat there.

Had you ever seen those little silicone mug mats that are supposed to help with drying? I swear, I bought a set once and they ended up just trapping more moisture between the mug and the mat. Honestly, it was a whole cycle of frustration. Tbh, I gave up and just started leaving my mugs upside down on a paper towel for a full day before stacking them. Ngl, it's a pain but at least no more mystery puddles.
