Used to spend hours blending layers by hand back in 2015

Now I just crank up the flow on a soft round brush and it looks exactly the same in half the time. Anyone else simplify their workflow as their skills improved?

Soft round brushes actually lose texture, just saying.

Wait, "lose texture"? I thought soft brushes were supposed to be gentle...

My size 4 round brush takes three passes to get the curl out. Then it just goes flat an hour later. A boar bristle brush actually holds the shape better for me.
