PSA: I stopped posting my art online for a month and my work got way better

Last week I finished a piece that actually felt like mine for the first time in years, because I wasn't trying to make it fit a trend. I just worked in my sketchbook in Chicago without thinking about likes. Has anyone else taken a break from the showcase grind and felt the same?

Completely agree with this. I stopped sharing my photography for a while and just shot what I liked. The pressure to perform for an audience really does kill the fun and the quality. It's a game changer to just create for yourself.

Honestly, that pressure to perform totally changes how you see your own work. I used to post my sketches and would get stuck trying to guess what people wanted to see next. Tbh, deleting the apps for a few weeks made me remember why I even liked drawing in the first place. It's just for me again.

@noahc14 gets it, that pressure just turns your art into a job you hate.
