Layer counts in my showcase file hit 800 and my PC choked

Spent Saturday pushing a cityscape piece with like 800 layers in Procreate. By hour 4 the app started stuttering hard, screen froze for 20 seconds every brush stroke. Had to export a flat version just to keep my sanity. Lost the last 15 minutes of work when it finally crashed. Anyone else hit a wall with huge files, or do you just work in chunks from the start?

That "20 seconds every brush stroke" part hit me. It's like when my phone gets so full of photos it takes forever just to open the camera app. Everything gets slower the more you pile on, and you don't notice until it's already too late. I feel like we all do this with projects, life, whatever, pack it to the brim and then wonder why it's running like garbage. Maybe the trick is forcing yourself to merge layers or clean out the old stuff way earlier, even when it feels like you're losing options.
