Just realized my digital painting's 'texture' was just a smudged screen.

I kept adding layers trying to recreate this gritty effect I loved. After a week, I wiped my tablet and the 'texture' vanished completely. Has anyone else accidentally made art with their mess?

Oh man, a friend once framed a coffee ring stain on a napkin thinking it was intentional watercolor. He'd left it under a mug while sketching and loved the hazy bloom it made. Some of the best textures are just happy little accidents.

Wait, isn't the whole point of digital art that you can make your own rules? If a smudged screen makes a cool texture, why isn't that a valid tool? It's like using the side of a charcoal pencil instead of the tip. The texture was real, you just found it in a weird place. The art is what you make with it, not where the effect came from.
