I used my cousin's selfie in a digital piece for a showcase

Now I'm wondering if I need their okay to show it publicly.

Permissions can be overblown, especially with family. You already used the selfie in your piece, so showing it publicly might not be a big step. Lots of digital art uses personal photos without formal okay. If your cousin hasn't complained yet, they probably don't care. Just check with them to be safe, but don't stress too much.

Wonder if we make too big a deal out of this. Using a cousin's selfie in your art might not bother them at all. Sure, some get upset, but most family just shrug it off. Checking is polite, but freaking out over permissions can be silly. In the end, it's just a photo shared with love.

Yeah, I once asked my aunt for permission to use a photo and she spent twenty minutes telling me about her new fridge. Sometimes asking just opens a whole other can of worms you didn't need.
