A client told me my digital paintings looked 'too smooth' so I started adding visible brush strokes on purpose
Since I switched to blocking in colors with a rough textured brush first before blending, I get way more comments on the 'painterly feel' now, has anyone else found that holding back on smoothing helps your stuff stand out?

Client said mine looked like plastic, so now I just tell people it's "editorial.

nah the real move is flipping it on them like that. "editorial" is basically a free pass for anything that looks weird or cheap. i swear clients just throw around "plastic" when they can't articulate what they actually want. it's your job to translate their nonsense into something that sounds legit. honestly if you sell it with enough confidence they'll believe anything.

Is "editorial" just fancy talk for "we're too broke for quality materials"?
