That one week in July where every Cummins ISX threw the same code
I had a week back in 2022 where I saw four different trucks, all Freightliners, with the same P0087 low fuel pressure code. Two of them came in on the same Tuesday, one on Wednesday, and the last one on Friday. Each one had a different cause - a bad CP4 pump on one, a pinched line on another, a clogged filter on the last two. Made me wonder if it was just bad luck or if there's some pattern with these common rail systems. Any of you guys ever had a weird run like that where the same code keeps popping up but with totally different fixes?

Honestly I think you're reading too much into it. The ISX is a workhorse engine that gets beat on all day long, and P0087 is basically the catch-all for "I'm starving for fuel." You saw four trucks but that's a tiny sample size. The real story here is that common rail systems are sensitive as hell to fuel quality and maintenance. If those trucks were from the same fleet or running fuel from the same supplier, you might have a pattern. Otherwise it's just coincidence and bad luck.

Four of them came through my bay in three days last summer, all with the same P0087 code, and every single one was a different fix too. One was a cracked pickup tube in the tank, another had a bad pressure relief valve, and the last two were just crap fuel filters someone forgot to change. I think these systems are just so touchy that any little hiccup in fuel delivery trips that same code, so you get a bunch of them at once if everyone's trucks are running ragged.
