PSA: The day my injector pump let go on I-10 outside of Phoenix

I was haulin' a load of farm equipment out to Yuma when the truck started surging and then just died at 70 mph. Coasted to the shoulder and found the pump had locked up solid from a tiny piece of debris in the fuel. Had to wait 5 hours for a tow and $3,200 later I'm wondering if anyone else swears by pre-filters over just the stock setup?

Not quite right on the cause. A tiny piece of debris locking up the pump that fast usually means the fuel was already contaminated going into the pump. The stock filter should catch most junk. A pre-filter helps but the real fix is draining your tank and checking your fuel source. I ran a 7.3 for years with just the stock setup and never had an issue. You might be dealing with water or algae in the tank if the debris was weird. Worth checking your fuel supplier too. That Arizona summer diesel can grow some nasty stuff in the heat.

Dude that sucks. I had a 6.0 blow a high pressure oil line on the 405 in LA once and it was basically the same situation coasting to the shoulder. Took almost 4 grand and a week to get it sorted. Never fun when a tiny little piece of crap brings the whole operation to a halt. Hope you got back on the road quick after that.
