Overheard a kid call a Detroit Diesel a 'clunker' at the parts counter this morning
I was waiting for a injector cup at the Freightliner dealer on River Road and this 20-something apprentice behind me said these old 60 series just aren't worth fixing anymore. It got me thinking about how we used to rebuild these things in the dirt with a crescent wrench and a prayer. Any of you still running mechanical engines or am I just the old guy yelling at clouds?

Did that kid call a 60 series a clunker right in front of you? That's like calling your grandpa a dinosaur while he's still fixing your car. I swear the younger crowd thinks if it don't have a computer screen it's basically scrap metal. These are the same people who panic when their check engine light turns on. Meanwhile we used to keep those old Detroit's running with baling wire and a prayer.

@the_oscar you hit the nail on the head SO hard. I had a kid at a gas station tell me my '87 F250 was "prehistoric" because it didn't have backup sensors. That truck has 400k miles on the original 6.9 and still hauls more than his little Nissan ever will. These kids don't understand that a simple wrench and some elbow grease can fix most problems on those old beasts. They stare at a carburetor like it's alien technology while their cars are bricked by a bad sensor.
