I'm done with quick injector swaps on old Cats
Was working on a 3406B over in Bakersfield last month, shop foreman said just pop the old injectors out and drop new ones in. Spent 3 days chasing a miss before I pulled the cups and found crud under two of them. Now I always pull the cups and clean the bore, no exceptions. Anyone else deal with a shop pushing shortcuts on older motors?

Did I write this post and just forget about it? Because I swear I've been in that exact same spot, swearing at a 3406B in the dust while the shop guy tells me to just "send it." My pride wrote a check my fuel system couldn't cash, took me a whole Saturday to learn that lesson.

Man, that's rough. I had a buddy who did the exact same thing on a job out in the desert. He was in a hurry, ignored the dust, and just tried to punch it through. Ended up spending his whole weekend on the side of a dirt road, cussing out his injectors while the rest of the crew sat around waiting. The shop guy later told him it was a "classic rookie mistake" which only made it worse. He said the worst part wasn't even the labor, it was having to eat crow on Monday when everyone asked how his "quick fix" went. Some lessons are just expensive the hard way.

Hey @kim963, didn't I read somewhere that those 3406Bs have a nasty habit of air-locking on dust like that?
