Had to choose between a full rebuild or just new injectors on a 6.7 Powerstroke

The truck came in with a rough idle and low power, and the owner was on a tight budget. After testing, we found two injectors were way out of spec, but the fuel pressure regulator was also acting up. I gave him the choice: replace just the two bad injectors for about $800 in parts, or do a full fuel system service, including the regulator, for closer to $1500. He went with the full service, and honestly, it was the right call. The truck runs smooth now, and we avoided a callback when the regulator would have likely failed next month. Has anyone else had a customer push back on the more complete repair, only to have it bite them later?

That $700 difference is a lot of money for a maybe. How often do those regulators actually fail right after injector work?

Totally get why that price feels like a gamble.

@the_margaret you're spot on about the gamble. My last injector job cost me a fancy dinner out when the pump went a week later, so I feel that pain. Guess I'm just a sucker for rolling the dice on car repairs.
