Finally fixed a leaky injector on my old 7.3 after 3 tries
Honestly, been fighting with this PSD for months. Kept getting a rough idle and white smoke. First I swapped the o-rings, then I replaced the whole injector, still had a drip. Third time I pulled the copper washer and found a tiny crack in the cup. Took a weekend to clean it up and put in a new one. Runs like a different truck now. Anyone else had a cup crack that just slips past your first checks?

Man, tunnel vision is a real thing. Spent three hours once cussing out a vacuum leak on my old truck before I realized I left a shop rag stuffed in the intake tube from the last oil change. Nothing like feeling real smart while you're staring straight at your own screwup. At least that crack was a legit mechanical issue, not just me being a doofus with a rag.

Buddy of mine found the same crack after chasing a miss for two months.

I gotta push back on that whole "chasing a miss for two months" thing though, @ben_nguyen. See that's the problem right there. People get so laser focused on one problem they miss the real issue staring them in the face. I mean sure your buddy found the crack eventually but was he even doing a proper visual check first or just throwing parts at it? Most guys skip the basics and then act surprised when it takes two months. A cracked manifold is loud and obvious if you actually listen with a stethoscope or even just a hose. You don't need two months for that. Chasing a miss can be frustrating but you gotta step back and think simple before you go swapping coils and injectors. That crack was probably there from day one and nobody wanted to look past the fancy scanner codes.

Two months is a rough way to learn that lesson though, I feel for @ben_nguyen on that one. I've been there myself, chasing a vacuum leak that turned out to be a loose hose clamp I walked past a dozen times. It's easy to get tunnel vision when the scanner keeps pointing you at fuel trims or misfires (especially when you're paying by the hour).
