Decided to rebuild a DT466 injector myself. What a mess.

Bought a reman injector for my '96 International and thought, how hard could it be? Ended up snapping a hold-down bolt inside the bore on cylinder 4. That little mistake cost me two days with my truck down and a $60 trip to the machine shop in Gainesville to extract it. Anyone else learn a hard lesson trying to save a buck on a swap like this?

Man, that's rough! I did almost the exact same thing on a 7.3 Powerstroke injector swap about two years ago, snapped a bolt clean off and spent a whole weekend cussing at it in the driveway. Had to borrow a buddy's tap and die set and still ended up drilling it out wrong, which made everything worse. You're definitely not alone in that gut-wrenching moment when you hear the snap and know you're in for a long haul.

@gavina73 been there with the snap. Next time, heat the block around the bolt first with a propane torch before you touch it. Heat expands the surrounding metal and breaks the rust bond, saved my ass on a Ford 6.0.

I get what you're saying about the heat trick, but I've found it can backfire if you're not super careful with the torch. I've seen guys warp the block around the bolt and then you're really screwed trying to get a good bite on it. Penetrating oil and a good impact gun have saved me more times than fire ever has.
