Changed my mind on cheap torque wrenches after a $80 mistake

I always bought the bargain bin ones for under $50, but one over-torqued a head bolt on a 6.7 Powerstroke last week and cost me a gasket set and a weekend. What's a decent mid-range brand you guys actually trust?

Yeah that insurance policy line hits hard. My GearWrench has been solid for years now.

It's funny how we learn the hard way to stop buying the cheapest version of things that really matter. A torque wrench is one of those tools where the price tag is basically an insurance policy. I've had good luck with GearWrench for a balance of cost and reliability, they seem to hit that sweet spot. Makes you wonder what other "good enough" tools in the box are actually a ticking clock, right?

My first torque wrench was a twenty dollar special from a parts store. Honestly, I thought it was fine until I snapped a lug stud. That moment made me get what @milest27 is saying about the price being insurance. Tbh I used to believe all wrenches were basically the same. Now I see how a bad reading on something critical can ruin your whole day. You really don't want to guess with stuff like suspension or engine parts. It changed how I look at a lot of my other tools too.
